Internet QoS: Past, Present, and Future

چکیده
In the past, numerous attempts at providing widespread Quality of Service (QoS) have failed. The two most popular architectures proposed, Integrated Services and Differentiated Services, suffer from scalability and flexibility concerns respectively. Newer QoS-enabling technologies such as MPLS have emerged, and look very promising in providing widespread QoS support. To provide a more general and multipurpose QoS signaling protocol, the Next Steps in Signaling Working Group was formed recently. This paper will provide a broad overview of previous and more currently proposed architectures, along with a brief discussion of the future direction of QoS.
